Fuji Xerox leads the new wave of low-carbon economy transition

Evolution force and initiatives contributes to responsible businesses

Hong Kong – January 19, 2018 - Fuji Xerox is excited to announce the continuum of our sustainable business transition to further contribute to the society, not limited to Hong Kong region.

Aim to engage stakeholders in the region on sustainability and transparency, Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong) took a leading role in hosting the regional annual network meeting with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in Hong Kong on November 24, 2017, in which corporate supporters were invited by GRI to share how sustainability reporting is benefiting their organizations. To further extend impact beyond its business scope, Fuji Xerox’s Asia Pacific operation has established a three-year partnership (2017-2019) with GRI. The company was also the first to launch its Impact Story in celebration of GRI’s 20th anniversary.

“The GRI framework has been beneficial to Fuji Xerox along the sustainability journey. We believe that sustainability must be the core of the business, to thrive in the economy and to succeed in business. Our eagerness is way beyond the company boundary, as we leverage our reach to influence both the society and our customers through experience sharing. This aligns us with the mission of GRI, urging a 3-year cooperation agreement between GRI and Fuji Xerox.”, says Herbert Hui, Managing Director of Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong).

“Asia, especially the Greater China region is an important market for GRI as it has become the new vanguard in the effort to drive sustainability into the heart of how business is conducted around the world.”, says Asthildur Hjaltadottir, Director of GRI Regions and Programs Implementation, “We invited our corporate supporters from the GOLD Community to share how sustainability reporting is benefiting their organizations and Fuji Xerox’s Impact Story was the first one launched.”

Recently, Fuji Xerox’s parent company - Fujifilm Holdings Corporation was confirmed to be among the first Asian companies in the industry with carbon emission target approved by Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative, meaning that it aligns with the scientific basis for achieving the “2 degrees Celsius” goal of Paris Agreement. In order to support international sustainability agenda, Fujifilm has published its “Sustainable Value Plan 2030 (SVP2030)” as a new CSR plan contributing to resolving social and environmental issues, as set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the United Nations and Paris Agreement. In particular, the Group sets a goal of achieving a 30% reduction in the volume of carbon emitted across the entire product lifecycle (Scope1,2,3) compared to FY2014/3 by FY2031/3.

Toward achieving these international goals, Fuji Xerox leverages its positioned in the paper-use supply chain to influence its suppliers and customers. The company recently announced its support to the Vancouver Declaration, through which 65 global corporates have pledged to strengthen their ethical sourcing commitment, in partnership with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). By further increasing the use of materials from responsibly managed forests in the region, Fuji Xerox will build momentum to further streamline its business operations to support the company’s global commitment of reducing carbon footprint across its value chain.

As a role model in the region, Fuji Xerox’s Hong Kong operation was honored to be one of the top five leading companies receiving the Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2017 from Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) together with those sustainability leaders from the field of power generation, transportation, and construction. Through a very keen competition against with over a hundred organizations, the assessment has been very comprehensive to cover the area of management commitment, stakeholder engagement, economic, social and environmental dimension and impact of sustainability measures.  Initiated by business leaders and sustainability experts, this newly launched award recognized Fuji Xerox (Hong Kong)’s holistic performance in all aspects and be the real sustainability leader in our industry.
